The Power of Positioning: Stand Out in Your Market and Capture Your Customer’s Heart
We all have that friend in our circle who always asks questions. Whether it’s out of curiosity or just because they’re never satisfied with what’s being said, they always challenge the status quo. At times, I found these people inconvenient, sometimes even unbearable. But, upon reflection, I realized that these individuals know how to position themselves in a situation and refuse to accept everything at face value—even when an expert is speaking on the topic.
The way they interpret the context goes beyond just words, where understanding the “why” makes all the difference. It’s scientifically proven: when you understand why something needs to be done, it increases your intention to do it, as long as it makes sense to you.
In the business and entrepreneurial world, your company’s positioning in the market must be driven by you first. Having a brand positioning that communicates your competitive edge to consumers is crucial.
What Is Positioning?
Positioning is a strategy aimed at creating a brand that stands out from the competition, becoming unique, communicable, and holding a distinct place in the consumer's mind. This positioning must align with the unique value your audience truly values. When developing a positioning strategy, a business must map out which segment they aim to serve and what differentiates their offering.
Now, I don’t know your age, but I remember a time when opening a bank account meant presenting numerous printed documents—original copies of everything. Your credit was thoroughly checked before you were even allowed to open an account, if the financial institutions approved you. It was a relatively complex and slow process.
Positioning in Action: A Digital Bank’s Approach
Recently, I opened an account at a digital bank, and it took no more than five minutes from entering my data to completing my business account—no bureaucracy, no delays, no hassle. What is this bank’s positioning? To fight complexity and empower people daily by reinventing financial services. Not only do they communicate this to their customers, but they also deliver on it.

The Price of Positioning
Of course, there is a price to pay when you choose to position your business. Automatically, you say yes to some and no to others. However, it is far better to stop being a passive entrepreneur who accepts everything, has no conflicts, and simply goes along without a clear stance. In other words, it’s about the union of segmentation and differentiation.
